MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Kayleigh Collins of Hope, Ark., was crowned as the 2008 Miss SAU on Thursday night in Harton Theatre on the University campus.
The title means Collins will receive two semesters of tuition at SAU, represent the University at various functions, and will secure a spot for her to compete at the Miss Arkansas pageant this July in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
“This is an honor and it will be an honor to represent SAU this year,” said Collins moments after being crowned.
This was the first pageant for Collins, a sophomore majoring in finance. Collins, who also received the lifestyle and fitness award and the talent award, is a member of the co-ed cheerleading squad at SAU and a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity who has sponsored the pageant for about the past five years.
Also part of the event was a goodbye from Miss SAU 2007 Summer Carter and a special performance from Miss Arkansas 2007 Katie Bailey who will represent the Natural State in this year’s Miss America pageant.
Other winners in the pageant included, Beth Monroe, a senior English major from Hope, Ark. who was named first runner up and will receive a semester’s tuition; Amber Hathorn, a junior pre-nursing major from Minden, La. who was named second runner up and received a $400 scholarship, and who won the interview portion of the event and Nakita Artis, a sophomore middle school education major from El Dorado, Ark. who won the Miss Congeniality award.
