U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln will speak to students on the campus of Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10.
Jillian Bridges will introduce Lincoln and recognize her for her work with Internet safety. Bridges, a ninth grader at Magnolia Junior High School, worked on a resolution with Rep. Bruce Maloch to recognize March 31 as Internet Safety Day.
Lincoln will address students on what is happening in Washington with Internet safety and other issues such as Facebook.com, identity theft, and how students can protect themselves.
A questions and answer session will follow her presentation.
Lincoln made history in 1998 when she became the youngest woman ever elected to the United States Senate. She is only the second woman to win a U.S. Senate seat representing Arkansas. She began her second term when she was sworn in in January 2005.
Lincoln was first elected to public office in 1992 as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the First Congressional District in Arkansas, and marking the first time a woman had ever won this post. She was a founding member of the “Blue Dog’ Coalition, a group of moderate House Democrats.
