MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Dr. Shannin Schroeder, associate professor of English at Southern Arkansas University, will present “A Virtual Tour of Great Britain” in a Faculty Research Seminar. The lecture will be held at 3:45 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, in Room 210 of the Donald W. Reynolds Center on the SAU campus. Her project was funded by a university research award.
Following a trip to England in the summer of 2005, Schroeder created a website that provides a virtual tour for students and teachers. The interactive page is a virtual literary map of England. It includes photographs she took while in Britain, historical and geographic facts about the locations, and personal commentary and place-specific facts about the authors who lived and wrote in these locales. Schroeder continues to build links, and the completed webpage will feature an interlocking group of e-texts, scholarly articles, biographies, organizations specific to the authors, and other scholarly resources available on the Internet.
Schroeder, who joined SAU in 1999, received her B.A. and an M.A. from Truman State University, and she completed her Ph.D. at Northern Illinois University. In 2004, Praeger published her Rediscovering Magical Realism in the Americas. Her book received a “highly recommended” notice in Choice.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
