The Department of Theatre and Mass Communication at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, will present its first play of the spring semester in three-quarter round on the stage of Harton Theater.
Performance time and dates for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” are 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 21-23, and February 28-March 1, 2. Seating will be limited and tickets are now available.
This play is about George, a professor at a small college, and his wife, Martha, who have just returned home, drunk from a Saturday night party. Martha announces that she has invited a young couple-an opportunistic new professor at the college and his shatteringly naïve new bride-to stop by for a nightcap.
When they arrive, the charade begins. The drinks flow, and suddenly inhibitions melt. It becomes clear that Martha is determined to seduce the young professor, and George couldn’t care less. Underneath the edgy banter, which is crossfired between both couples, lurks an undercurrent of tragedy and despair.
Members of the cast include Laurie Kelley, a senior theatre major from Camden; Joel Williams, a senior theatre and criminal justice double major from Hope; Billy Penick, a junior marketing major from Magnolia; and Erin Nipper, a freshman English major from Camden.
This play contains strong language and adult situations.
Admission is $2 for students, faculty, and staff, and $4 for general admission.
