Twenty members of Phi Beta Lambda at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, brought home 30 state awards from the 2006 State Leadership Conference recently held in Little Rock.
The group received 13 first place awards and received second place honors for the most money raised for the March of Dimes.
The Business Decision Making Team placed second in the collegiate level competition. Team members included Daniel Angelov, a senior accounting and finance double major from Bulgaria; John Garama, a senior accounting and computer information systems double major from Kenya; and Candyce McCann, a freshman organizational management major from Magnolia.
Angelov placed first and Garama third in the collegiate level in accounting analysis and decision making event.
McCann currently serves as the Arkansas PBL Region IV Vice President and was recognized in Who’s Who in Arkansas PBL.
The Partnership with Business project placed third in the collegiate level competition. The project report was written by Kimberly Frisby, a sophomore accounting major from El Dorado. It was presented by Sean Johnson, a junior accounting, marketing, and management information systems triple major from Redwater, Texas, and Maribeth Adams, a sophomore accounting major from Warren. Adams was also named the 2006 Arkansas PBL Member of the Year.
Brian Warner won first place overall and in the collegiate level in computer applications. Warner is a freshman management information systems major from Magnolia. He also won the computer operating systems open event. Open events are open to all conference attendees with no pre-registration required.
Vanessa Johnson, a sophomore accounting and finance double major from Magnolia, placed first overall and in the collegiate level in job interview.
Elica Angelova, a sophomore accounting major from Bulgaria, placed first overall and in the collegiate level in statistical analysis. Angelova also placed first in the collegiate level and second overall in accounting principles.
Sarah Pulliam, a junior organizational management major from Lewisville, received third place in the collegiate level in statistical analysis.
Marija Kolarevic, a sophomore accounting major from Serbia, placed second overall and in the collegiate level in statistical analysis and third place in the collegiate level in accounting principles.
Martha Moses, a senior accounting major from Camden, won second place in the collegiate level in accounting principles.
Charles Honeycutt, a junior management information systems major from El Dorado, received first place in the collegiate level in networking concepts and third place in the collegiate level in computer concepts.
Sharon McWilliams, a junior business education major from Magnolia, placed second overall and in the collegiate level in Future Business Teacher.
Pauline Lovett, a senior management information systems major from El Dorado, placed first in the associate level in job interview and statistical analysis.
Traci Hughes, instructor of business in the College of Business at SAU and PBL advisor from Prescott, received recognition for outstanding local chapter advisor and for service to the 2006 Arkansas PBL state officer team.
Seven chapter members will compete at the National Leadership Conference to be held June 23-27 in Nashville, Tenn. PBL members rely on corporate sponsorship donations and fundraisers to cover the expense of attending the national conference.
