Twenty-five students from the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, gained valuable work experience in various companies in Camden, El Dorado, and Magnolia during the spring semester.
“The internship program at SAU affords students an opportunity to develop better interpersonal skills, to see the knowledge learned in class applied, to gain exposure in all areas of their discipline, and to develop contacts with key area business leaders,” said Dr. Gayle White, director of the SAU internship program and the Turner Professor of Management.
Six students completed internships in accounting. They included Lyndy Crowe and Terra Garry with Evers, Cox, and Gober PLLC CPA; Nic Dougan with South Arkansas Youth Services; John Garama with Enrich and Scroggins LLP; Jennifer London with No Child Left Behind; and Drew Maza with Murphy Oil Corporation.
Crowe is a senior accounting and finance double major from Calion; Garry is a senior accounting and finance double major from Junction City; Dougan is a senior accounting major from Magnolia; Garama is a senior accounting and computer information systems double major from Tokyo, Japan; London is a senior accounting major from Camden; and Maza is a senior accounting and finance double major from El Dorado.
Finance interns included Nathan Goble with Farmers Bank and Trust and Anna Maltseva with Mark Woods at Edward Jones Investments. Goble is a senior finance major from Emerson, and Maltseva is a junior accounting major from Sevierville, Tenn.
Eleven students completed management internships. They are Kim Blackmon with Ken’s Discount; LaVennier Broadus with Entertainment Technologies; Laurie Burks with the SAU Physical Plant; Jamie Dennington with SAU Student Support Services; Ryan Grebert with the Camden Country Club; Tauseef Hussain with Aramark; David Lowery with S & S Home Center; Sing-Yi Ng, Donnie Sneed, and Elizabeth Yagaza with Alcoa; and Sean Palmer with Wal-Mart.
Blackmon is a senior management major from El Dorado; Broadus, a senior management major from Waldo; Burks, a senior management major from Stephens; Dennington, a senior management major from Texarkana; Grebert, a senior organizational management major from Shenandoah, Iowa; Hussain,, a senior organizational management major from Pakistan; Lowery, a senior management major from Magnolia; Ng, a senior management major from Magnolia; Sneed, a senior management major from Magnolia; Yagaza, a senior management major from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; and Palmer, a junior management major from Sarepta, La.
Management information systems interns included David Hunt with Murphy Oil Corporation and Sangam KC, who worked in a dual internship with Reynolds Forestry Consulting, RFC and Alcoa. Hunt is a senior computer information systems major from Springhill, La., and KC is a senior computer information systems major from Kathmandu, Nepal.
Interns in the area of marketing included John Hodges with Bayou Bistro; Jamie Johnson with the SAU Communications Center; Shay Lee with Especially for You; and Sonya Sharp with Matt Gibbs Insurance Company.
Hodges is a senior organizational management and marketing double major from Waldo; Johnson, a senior graphic design major from Camden; Lee, a senior marketing major from El Dorado; and Sonya Sharp, a senior marketing major from Camden.
