Five students were recently recognized by the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, for placing in the poster contest held in honor of Foreign Language Month.
The theme for this year’s poster contest was “Languages Bring Cultures Together.”
All students currently enrolled in a French or Spanish course at SAU were eligible to enter the contest.
“This was our first year to sponsor the poster contest,” said Dr. Elba Birmingham-Pokorny, professor of Spanish and adviser to the Spanish Club at SAU. “We plan to offer this contest next year as well.”
Winners received $100 for first place; $75 for second place; and $50 for third place.
Winners included Hoa Nguyen, a freshman accounting major and Spanish minor from Russell Springs, Ky., first place; Regina Clark, a junior Spanish major from Nashville, second place; Michael Story, a sophomore Spanish major from Columbus, Ohio, third place; Rachel Vinsant, a sophomore biological science major and Spanish minor from Greenville, Texas, third place; and Beth Monroe, a sophomore English education major and Spanish minor from Hope, third place.
