Twenty-three students at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, were chosen to serve as President’s Ambassadors for the 2006-07 academic year. President’s Ambassadors, or PAs, are the official student representatives for SAU, and their purpose is to promote and serve the University.
President’s Ambassadors serve as hosts at a variety of University events and provide tours for prospective students, parents, and other distinguished guests. They also assist the division of Enrollment Services in contacting prospective students by telephone and by mail.
After being nominated for PA, a student must submit an application with three recommendations; project a positive image, outgoing personality, and an enthusiastic attitude about SAU; have a minimum cumulative 2.85 grade point average and have completed 30 hours after the spring 2006 semester; have interviews with committees consisting of organization sponsors, staff, faculty, and President’s Ambassadors; and be selected by the committee.
Once selected as a PA, a student must commit to work one night a week for three to three and one-half hours; work five hours a week in the mailroom; give campus tours; attend weekly PA meetings; participate in hosting University functions; complete all PA training sessions in fall and spring; and serve during both fall and spring semesters.
President’s Ambassadors receive a $1,000 scholarship per semester and the prestige of being chosen to the President’s elite student organization.
