Make plans now to step back in time as Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, celebrates Homecoming 2006, “SAU Goes Retro,” on Saturday, Oct. 14.
“We are very excited with the activities we have planned for students and alumni,” said Ceil Bridges, director of the Office of Alumni Relations at SAU. “For the first time, we have something planned everyday for the students to enjoy.”
The 2006 homecoming queen and her court will be announced at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at the Greek Theatre. There will also be a pep rally and a bonfire to follow.
At 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Student Activities Board will sponsor a drive-in movie in the Reynolds Center parking lot.
Aramark Food Services will serve hot dogs in the Mall Area at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The SAU cheerleaders and rodeo team will lead the Tiger Tamer Obstacle Course at 1 p.m. in the Mall Area.
The Student Government Association will lead the street painting at 11 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, on the SAU farm road.
The Rider Golf Tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Magnolia Country Club. This event is coordinated by Mike Waters, Monty Harrington, and Debbie Arnold.
A luncheon for charter members of the Friends of the Library will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Reynolds Center. Peggy Walters and Gaye Calhoun have coordinated this event.
The SAU Heartbeat will kickoff at noon on Friday, Oct. 13, in front of Harton Theater.
The Distinguished Alumni Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. in Grand Hall of the Reynolds Center. This dinner will recognize recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Distinguished Golden Rider Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, and Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
A black alumni reception will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Muleriders Activities Center. This event is being led by Cledis Stuart.
The Golden Rider Reception will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Welcome Center.
There are lots of activities planned for Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Golden Rider Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. in the Reynolds Center and will honor 1956 graduates.
The Honor Wall ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in Foundation Hall of the Reynolds Center.
The SAU parade will begin at 10 a.m. All participants will line up at 9:30 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church.
The floats will be on display in the Reynolds Center parking lot beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Mulegating will be in full force on the lawn of the Welcome Center at 11 a.m. Children will enjoy face painting, funnel cakes, and goody bads.
The homecoming court will be presented at 2 p.m. at Wilkins Stadium. The football game begins at 2:30 p.m. The Muleriders will face Ouachita Baptist University.
At halftime of the game, winners of the banner and float contest will be announced. Murphy’s Jewelers will also announce the winner of their TAG watch giveaway at halftime.
An alumni baseball game is scheduled for 7 p.m. under the new lights at the baseball field.
The Greek Step Show will be held at 8 p.m. at the W.T. Watson Gym.
