In celebration of the heartland, an exhibition of works by the best-known artists of the 1920s to 1940s will be on display through the end of February in the Brinson Fine Art Gallery on the campus of Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia.
The “Drawings and Prints of American Regionalism” exhibition is being sponsored by the Department of Art and Design and the Rosemary Rhea Arts in Education Center and Gallery.
Prints and drawings from such notable artists as Grant Wood, Milton Avery, and Thomas Hart Benton are included in this exhibition.
Regionalism refers to the work of a group of artists, mostly from the Midwest, who were trained in modernist styles yet chose the work in idiosyncratic styles with a fondness for depicting everyday rural life and the American landscape.
School groups and classes are encouraged to attend. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Hours for the Brinson Fine Art Gallery are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
