Six faculty members and one student from the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, presented refereed papers at the 33rd annual meeting of the Federation of Business Disciplines Conference in Oklahoma City, Okla.
FBD is an annual meeting of 12 associations that represent disciplines common to business administration.
Dr. Sam Riner and Daniel Angelov presented “Current Trends in the U.S. Public Accounting Industry” to the American Accounting Association – Southwest Region. Riner is an associate professor of accounting. Angelov is a senior accounting and finance double major from Gabrovo, Bulgaria.
Dr. Beverly Oswalt, Ronnie Watson, and Dr. John Scott all made presentations to the Association of Business Information Systems. Oswalt and Watson, along with Carla Barber from the University of Central Arkansas, presented “Technical Certification and Licensure through MIS Programs at AACSB Accredited Schools.” Scott and Oswalt presented “How Much Content Should Internet Outlets Give Away?” Oswalt and Barber presented “IT Disaster Recovery Planning: Lessons Learned from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.” Oswalt presented “Impact of Effective Collaborative Communication on the Success of Collaborative Commerce at FedEx Corporation.”
Oswalt is an associate professor of management information systems. Scott is associate professor of economics and director of the Center for Economic Education and Research. Watson is instructor of management information systems.
Dr. Limount Zhao, assistant professor of finance, presented “Can the Fastest Growers Continue to Grow Fast?” to the Southwest Finance Association.
Dr. Marshall Horton, associate professor of economics, presented “A ‘New’ Way of Teaching Elementary Economics” to the Southwestern Society of Economists.
In addition to presenting papers, Riner served as a session chair for the American Accounting Association – Southwest Region. Oswalt was president of ABIS for 2005-06. She served on the FBD and ABIS boards, served as a session chair, and conducted the ABIS business meeting. She was a panelist for a joint session of ABIS and the Southwest Decision Sciences Association.
Oswalt was also appointed to a three-year term as the new editor of a refereed journal that will be published by ABIS beginning fall 2006. Horton served on the executive committee of the Southwestern Society of Economists. He was also a discussant for one of the sessions for SWSE.
