The Center for Economic Education and Research at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, held its spring workshop on the University campus on March 11.
The workshop was held in partnership with the Arkansas Council on Economic Education.
Twenty-one teachers in grades K-12 from the region explored “Choices and Changes,” a curriculum that centers on teaching students how they can gain control over and improve opportunities in their own lives by investing in their skills and knowledge and by learning to make sound decisions.
Dr. John Scott, director of the Center, taught economics to the participants while the ACEE staff trained teachers how to integrate the curriculum into their classroom instruction.
Geanie Davis, program coordinator of the ACEE, informed participants regarding Arkansas Council and National Council resources that help with teaching. Davis and Jennifer Taunton, master economics teacher, led the curriculum development sessions of the workshop.
