Doug Waterfield, chair of the Department of Art and Design at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, was recently notified that his documentary film, “Arkansas Portraits: A Look at Art Made by Arkansans,” was chosen as a selection for the Ninth annual Magnolia Independent Film Festival in Starkville, Miss., on Feb. 16-18.
The film is also being featured in the Ozark Foothills Film Festival, April 8-9, in Batesville.
This is the second film produced by Waterfield. His first, “A Journey to Italy with Doug Waterfield,” was distributed statewide to high school art departments as a teaching tool. “Arkansas Portraits” was distributed statewide as well to public and university libraries.
Both films were made possible by a research grant from SAU, where Waterfield has served as a faculty member since 2000.
As a member of the first-year class of Louisiana Tech University’s master of fine arts program, Waterfield will exhibit his work in Ruston, La., this month. The show debuted with a public reception on Saturday, Feb. 4. It will continue through Saturday, Feb. 25, at Fusion Gallery. Hours for the exhibition are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
