Five students were recently recognized as outstanding students by their departments in the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia.
Daniel Angelov, an accounting and finance double major from Sofia, Bulgaria, was named the 2006 College of Business Outstanding Student. He was also the outstanding student in finance.
While at SAU, Angelov has been involved in the Business Student Advisory Council and Phi Beta Lambda. At this year’s PBL conference, Angelov won first place collegiate and first place overall in accounting analysis and decision making and second place collegiate in business decision making. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Chi honor societies. He has been awarded the Nolle National Scholarship of Alpha Chi for 2006.
Along with Dr. Sam Riner, Angelov presented a research paper at the 2006 American Accounting Association Southwest Region meeting in Oklahoma City in March. He has served as a math tutor at El Dorado High School since August 2004. He was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He had the highest MFAT score in the history of the College of Business at SAU. He is also actively involved with the SAU Soccer Club.
John Garama was named the outstanding student in management information systems. Garama, of Kenya, is a double major in management information systems and accounting.
Garama served as an officer of Phi Beta Lambda for two years and has won several awards competing at the PBL State Leadership Conference. He is the outgoing 2005-06 president of the International Students Association, as well as the 2004-05 vice president of that organization. He is a member of the Business Student Advisory Council. He was a 2006 inductee into Beta Gamma Sigma.
Maegan Nottingham Thomas, of Genoa, was recognized as the outstanding student in marketing.
While at SAU, Thomas has been a member of Phi Beta Lambda and Students in Free Enterprise. She was also an active member of the Business Student Advisory Council. She is a member of Sigma Beta Delta. Thomas graduated in December and is currently employed in banking in Texarkana.
David Morris, of El Dorado, was named the outstanding student in organizational management.
While at SAU, Morris interned at Langley Oil Company, where he earned straight fives on his evaluation, which is the best evaluation possible. He has been on the President’s List and Dean’s List and is a member of Sigma Beta Delta.
Natalie Hill, of El Dorado, was named the outstanding student in accounting.
Hill graduated in December with a B.B.A. in accounting and finance. She is currently employed as a staff accountant in the Little Rock office of BKD, LLP, a regional public accounting firm. Her husband, Daniel, works in theatre management in Little Rock.
During her time at SAU, Hill served as president of the Business Student Advisory Council and was actively involved in Phi Beta Lambda and the Accounting and Finance Society.
