The Department of Art and Design at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, announces the opening of the exhibition “Printmaking from the French Avant-Garde: Selections from the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection.”
The exhibition will be on display through the end of October. The Brinson Fine Arts Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The group of 19 prints shows a cross-section of printmaking from the Paris area. Most of the prints are from the late 19th and early 20th century, with a number of them dating to the late 18th century.
“We are fortunate to be able to have works displayed on our campus from some of art’s great masters,” said Doug Waterfield, chair of the Department and assistant professor of art.
Included in the exhibit are works from Eugene Delacroix, Marc Chagall, Andre Derain, Fernand Leger, Georges Roualt, and a couple of pieces from Pablo Picasso and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
“I am personally quite excited and enthusiastic about our being able to host this exhibit,” said Waterfield.
