The Department of Nursing at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, will co-sponsor the 7th annual Family Care Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center located on the University campus.
The health fair is an annual event and a collaborative community effort. The H.E.A.L.T.H. (Helping Everyone Achieve Long-Term Health) in Columbia County Initiative is made up of community service providers, businesses, and medical and educational representatives who, through their knowledge of the community, identify areas of concern and develop projects to meet those needs. The Arkansas Department of Health assists with technical and administrative support.
Other sponsors are H.E.A.L.T.H. in Columbia County Initiative and Living Hope-Texarkana.
“We urge everyone to join us,” said Dr. Golden Tradewell, chair of the Department of Nursing at SAU. “We will offer health education programs for the children in the Reynolds Center. We will offer blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening, and glucose screening, as well as providing adult immunizations in the Wharton Nursing Building.”
The health fair is free and open to the public. It offers the community an opportunity to obtain services in important areas such as health, safety, and community education. It is also a forum for families to identify services that are available to them within the community and a chance for them to enjoy fun activities with their children.
Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the fun and take advantage of free vision, dental, and blood pressure screenings. Blood sugar and cholesterol screenings will be conducted in the Wharton Nursing Building, located on the SAU campus. Free refreshments, entertainment, and drawings for door prizes will also be available.
