Eighteen students from the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, recently won awards at the 2005 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference. The team returned with eight first place awards and an SAU student was one of the top overall winners.
Juan Jimenez, a senior management major from Blevins, was named the Arkansas PBL Member of the Year.
The SAU PBL team received the Arkansas Silver Chapter Award.
Three students received first place overall with their American enterprise project. They are Michele Hodges, a senior accounting major from Waldo; John Hodges, a senior management major from Waldo; and Russ Toms, a sophomore computer information systems major from Taylor. The group also received first place in the collegiate division.
Sean Johnson, a sophomore management information systems major from Redwater, Texas, received first place overall in computer concepts and economics. He also received first place in the collegiate division.
Marguerite Norman, a senior general studies major from Pine Bluff, received first place overall for future business teacher. She also placed first in the collegiate division.
Roslyn Lisenby, a senior computer information systems major from Foreman, placed first overall in information management. She also placed first in the collegiate division in information management. Lisenby also received second place overall for Java programming. She placed second in the collegiate division for Java programming. In open events, Lisenby received third place for computer operation systems and network security.
The local chapter’s annual business report placed first overall and in the collegiate division.
Derek Jones, a senior marketing major from Magnolia, placed second overall in international business. He also received second place in the collegiate division for international business.
Suzanne Spradlin, a senior accounting major from Hot Springs, placed second overall and second in the collegiate division in statistical analysis.
The chapter also received second place overall for recruitment of professional division members. The group received third place overall for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Financial Award and march of Dimes Financial Award.
Curley Smith, a sophomore computer information systems major from Pine Bluff, earned first place in the collegiate division in job interview.
Jimenez and Katelyn Glover, a freshman early childhood education major from Langley, placed second in the collegiate division with their community service project.
Connie Vansickle, a senior marketing major from Prescott, placed first in advertising in the open events and placed third in the collegiate division in business communication.
Judith Bledsoe, a senior accounting major from Strong, and Lyndy Crowe, a senior accounting major from Calion, placed third in the collegiate division with their business plan.
Jay Tisho, a senior computer information systems major from Broken Bow, Okla., placed third in the collegiate division in networking concepts.
Reed Camp, a senior marketing major from Stamps, placed third in the collegiate division in sales presentation.
Drew Garner, a senior marketing major from Sheridan, placed third in the collegiate division in sports management and marketing.
Lacy Dessart, a senior management major from Magnolia, placed second in leadership and third in ethics and etiquette in the open events.
Matthew Hamilton, a junior management major from Camden, was named to Who’s Who in Arkansas PBL.
Traci Hughes, advisor, received Outstanding Local Advisor and a State Officer Appreciation Certificate. Hughes, Gerald Plumlee, instructor of management information systems, and Dr. Terrye Stinson, dean of the College of Business, were recognized for their advisor service.
