Twenty-three students from Southern Arkansas University were recently recognized as outstanding student leaders during the Student Government Association’s 10th annual Leadership Recognition and Awards Banquet.
This award is presented to students whose leadership, service, and dedication have had a far-reaching influence on campus life. The recipients have enhanced the organizations in which they are involved, empowered their fellow students, and served the community.
Billy Bethea is a senior mathematics major from Hampton. He is resident director of Honors Hall, president of National Residence Hall Honorary, chief justice of the Student Government Association, elections chair, constitutional review chair, member of the University discipline committee and human rights committee, winner of the Residence Hall Association Achievement Award 2005, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Will Bowling is a senior biological science major from Texarkana, Texas. He is a member of the Muleriders Band, member of the Biology Club, treasurer of the Chemistry Club, treasurer of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, and a representative of the Interfraternity Council.
Paige Burkham is a senior psychology major from Hope. She is a member of the Collegiate FFA, Psi Chi, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and Psychology Club, a leader at Mulerider Round-up, and secretary of the President’s Ambassadors.
Porsche Doss is a sophomore nursing major from Waldo. She is the Student Government Association senator from the College of Science and Technology, leader at Mulerider Round-up, mentor at Leadership Academy, secretary of Pan-Hellenic, representative of the InterGreek Council, member of the Student Nurses Association, and vice president and president of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Eric Engelberger is a senior health, kinesiology, and recreation major from El Dorado. He is a mentor at Leadership Academy, a resident assistant, secretary of the National Residence Hall Honorary, member of the Student Affairs Committee, Student-Faculty Discipline Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Intercollegiate Athletic Committee, president of Student Government Association, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Andrew Guy is a senior biological science major from Downsview, Canada. He is president of the International Students Association and a member of the Soccer Club, Biology Club, French Club, and Chi Alpha.
Krista Harrell is a junior health, kinesiology, and recreation major from Camden. She is a resident assistant in Harrod Hall, vice president of the Residence Hall Association, and president of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.
Michele Hodges is a senior accounting major from Waldo. She is president of the Accounting and Finance Society, assistant captain in Students in Free Enterprise, vice president of Phi Beta Lambda, member of the Business Student Advisory Council, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Britt House is a senior agriculture sciences major from Texarkana. He is a community advisor in University Village, past president and treasurer of Sigma Pi fraternity, member of the SAU graduation committee, vice president of Inter Fraternity Council, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Matt Jackson is a senior agricultural education major from Bismarck. He is a community advisor in University Village, member of the Collegiate FFA, vice president of Sigma Pi, and representative to the Inter Fraternity Council.
Jennifer Jones is a senior agriculture sciences major from Bee Branch. She is a mentor at Leadership, leader at Mulerider Round-up, member of the Biology Club, Ag Club, and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, and served as a Gamma Chi during recruitment.
Jermaine Jones is a senior graphic design major from Wichita Falls, Texas. He is president of the InterGreek Council, member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, French Club, and cross country team, vice president of Pivot Point Club, and president of the Pan-Hellenic Council and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Jessica Lawson is a senior pre-pharmacy major from Magnolia. She is vice president of the Student Government Association, president of the Black Student Association, vice president of Alpha Chi Honor Society, member of the Heritage Singers, community advisor in University Village, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
T.J. Lee is a senior political science major from Lewisville. He is vice president of President’s Ambassadors, secretary of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, a leader at Mulerider Round-up, and president-elect of the Student Government Association.
Courtney McHughes is a senior agriculture sciences major from Little Rock. She is a member of the Ag Club, Biology Club, mentor at Leadership Academy, leader at Mulerider Round-up, inducted into Beta Beta Beta and Alpha Chi, secretary of Rodeo Club, president of the Pre-Vet Club, and president of President’s Ambassadors.
Marguerite Norman is a senior general studies major from Pine Bluff. She is tour coordinator for President’s Ambassadors, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha, program chair of Kappa Delta Pi, a leader at Mulerider Round-up, mentor at Leadership Academy, representative on the InterGreek Council, representative on Pan-Hellenic Council, Project Pal mentor, and member of the Wesley Foundation and the Black Students Association.
Ta’Shari Robinson is a sophomore business administration-management major from Camden. She is a senator from the College of Business, vice president of Bussey Hall, member of Alpha Phi Omega and the flag line, and a resident assistant in Harrod Hall.
John Toms is a sophomore business administration-computer information systems major from Taylor. He is vice president of Phi Beta Lambda and a member of Students in Free Enterprise and the President’s Ambassadors.
Megan White is a junior early childhood education major from Springhill, La. She is historian/reporter for the President’s Ambassadors, member of the homecoming court, Miss SAU, a member of Kappa Delta Pi, and named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Billy Whitt is a junior pre-medicine major from Texarkana, Texas. He is vice president of Phi Lambda Chi, member of the Inter Fraternity Council and Biology Club, and is a President’s Ambassador.
Sha’Wakanee Willis is a sophomore early childhood education major from Camden. She is vice president of operations for the Residence Hall Association, sergeant at arms of Alpha Phi Omega, senator from the College of Education, member of Students in Free Enterprise, member of the Black Students Association, member of the Student Activities Board, member of Mule.org, member of the SAU concert band, and a resident assistant in Harrod Hall.
Jay Wylie is a senior health, kinesiology, and recreation major from Norphlet. He is resident director of Talbot Hall and advisor to the Talbot Hall Council, vice president of the College Republicans, member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, named SWACUHO Gene Ward Outstanding Student Leader for Arkansas, and served as president of the Student Government Association.
