If you are a certified public accountant and need certified professional education hours, then now is the time to make plans to attend the Accounting and Auditing CPE course offered by the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia.
Co-sponsored by the Accounting and Finance Society and PBL student organizations, the course will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, in Grand Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center located on the University campus.
The deadline to register is Thursday, Nov. 10. The program fee is $150 and lunch is included in the fee.
Three professors from the SAU College of Business will present programs for those who attend.
Dr. Sam Riner, DBA, CPA, is an associate professor of accounting at SAU, and he will present “Emerging Accounting and Auditing Issues.” Riner is a native of Magnolia and earned his B.B.A. in accounting from SAU. He also earned M.B.A. and D.B.A. degrees in accounting at Louisiana Tech University. He has worked extensively in oil and gas accounting as controller and in public accounting as a senior staff accountant. He has taught accounting since 1987.
Shane Warrick will present “Process Costing” and “Allocation of Service Costs.” Warrick, M.B.A., CPA, joined the accounting faculty in January 2002. He has worked in public accounting with KPMG and private accounting, most recently with Murphy Oil Corporation. Warrick is a member of the Arkansas Society of CPAs, South Arkansas CPAs of which he is the educational liaison, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is a graduate of SAU and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Dr. David Ashby, DBA, CFP, CPA, will present “Retirement Planning and Investments.” Ashby is the Peoples Bank Professor of Economics and Finance at SAU and the chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics. He is a practicing financial planner and owner of Mustard Seed Financial, LLC. Additionally, he has served on numerous committees of the CFP Board and in 2004 served as national co-chair of the CFP Board Job Analysis Task Force. He has published papers in numerous professional journals and teaches courses mainly in the areas of retirement planning, estate planning, and corporate finance.
After the program session, the South Chapter of the Arkansas Society of CPAs will host its regular monthly meeting ($20 fee). If participants attend the program session and the monthly meeting, they will receive a total of eight CPE hours.
