Nineteen interns from the College of Business at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, participated in various internships in four states during the summer and fall of 2005.
“These interns have been able to see knowledge learned in class applied, have been exposed to the areas of their disciplines, and have developed better interpersonal skills through contacts with co-workers, customers, and clients,” said Dr. Gayle White, intern director and professor of management at SAU. “This service provided by area businesses is extremely valuable to the students in the College of Business.”
Students participating in management internships in Texas included Greg Edwards, a senior management major from Magnolia, with 2Bar M Sports Camps in New Braunfels, and Nick Kent, a senior marketing and management double major from Foreman, with the North American Team Roping Association in Texarkana.
Participating in a marketing internship at Walt Disney World in Florida was Ben Cross, a senior marketing major from Magnolia.
North Carolina interns included Matthew Hamilton, a junior management major from Camden, in management, and Crystal Owen, a senior marketing major from Haynesville, La., in marketing. Following a week of classroom training by University Directories in Raleigh, N.C., the two students returned to the area to complete their internships.
Interns in the management area in Magnolia included Karrah Clark, a senior management major from El Dorado, with Payless Shoe Store; John Cummings, a senior marketing and management double major from Magnolia, for IFSA; Chris Emerson, a junior management major from Emerson, for Brookshire Grocery; and Lori-Anna Polk, a senior management major from Magnolia, for Mules Cantina. Two local marketing interns included Drew Garner, a senior marketing major from Sheridan, with Hibbett Sports, and April Miles, a senior marketing major from El Dorado, with Serenity Day Spa and Tanning Salon. Ashly Voss, a senior accounting and finance double major from Magnolia, interned in finance with Peoples Bank.
Three management majors working as interns in El Dorado included Sam Mushi, a senior management major from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; Linda Olisa, a senior management and marketing double major from Cedar Park, Texas, with Ryan’s Steakhouse; and Shasta Wylie, a senior organizational management major from Norphlet, with First Financial Bank.
Other interns in the management area included Katie McMullan, a senior management major from El Dorado, with State Farm Insurance of Camden; David Morris, a senior management major from El Dorado, with Langley Oil Company of Smackover; and Demecia Rowe, a senior management major from Hope, with the University of Arkansas Community College in Hope.
Russ Toms, a junior computer information systems major from Taylor, had an internship with Murphy Oil in El Dorado.
