Honor Professor 2005 Dr. Suzanne Jessup will be the guest speaker at the December 2005 commencement ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, in the W.T. Watson Athletic Center on the campus ofSouthern Arkansas University.
Jessup is a retired professor of education andserved as the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education coordinator. She began her career at SAU in 1988 as an assistant professor ofeducation. She has also served as associate dean of education for graduate studies and associate professor of education.
She earned an A.B. from Mount St.Scholastica College, an A.M. from St. Louis University, and her Ph.D. from Kansas State University.
Jessup has traveled around the world and served in various positions. She was department chair of the Oil Companies School in Tripoli, Libya; department chair at the American School of Kuwait; and producer/director of Theater International at Leysin American School in Switzerland.
While at SAU, Jessup was Faculty Senate representative from the College of Education for six years, Senate president from 2000-01, and member of the North Central Steering Committee, NCA Assessment Committee, Faculty Handbook/Evaluation Committee, Teacher Education Committee, Graduate Council, Ad Hoc Committee on Teacher Education Technology, Review Board for Human Subjects, Research Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and the Academic Affairs Committee.
Her community activities include Delta Kappa Gamma, Lions Club, and the Archeology Club.
A reception for graduates will be held from 4 to5:30 p.m. in the Blue and Gold Room of the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center.
