Construction has begun on a new national chain restaurant at Southern Arkansas University that may be open as soon as February 1, 2018, for the campus and the community. Panda Express Chinese Kitchen, a “fast casual Chinese restaurant,” will open in the clubhouse of the University Village apartment complex on the east end of campus. Southern Arkansas University is again hosting the Columbia County Angel Tree and is open for sponsors to select angels. The program aims to make Christmas great for more than 250 children and 93 families in Columbia County. The Angel Tree serves children in need from infancy through high school seniors by providing sponsors with information about each child’s age, gender, sizes and gift requests. Southern Arkansas University is scheduled to recognize 370 graduate students and 171 undergraduates during two Fall Commencement ceremonies at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017. Both ceremonies will take place in the gymnasium at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
