How does the selection process work?
- Each candidate will complete the online application for the position.
- The SAU Mascot Advisory Committee will review the applicants and select no more than ten candidates to participate in the interview process.
- After the initial interview, the top candidates will participate in a mascot try-out with the committee.
- The candidate will be selected based on the highest scores based on the combination of the application, interview, and try-out scores.
- The newly selected Mulerider will begin their duties in August 2024.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have completed at least one semester at Southern Arkansas University.
- Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
- Prior riding experience with horses and/or mules is required. Each applicant should submit a video with proof of riding skills. This video submission can be recorded with a cell phone.

All social media should reflect the image of the official representative of Southern Arkansas University.

- The Mulerider is responsible for all SAU-issued property and must pay for any of those items that are lost or damaged. These items may only be used for official SAU functions.
- Further responsibilities and guidelines may be added by the SAU Mascot Advisory Committee as needed. The Mulerider must sign a contract upon their selection outlining further requirements.
Expectations:
- There will be responsibilities on nights and weekends.
- Must attend ALL trainings, meetings, and events, including required such as orientation and training activities unless excused for good reason and regular meeting schedule.
- Perform at SAU designated events including but not limited to appearances at numerous sporting events throughout the year, Mulegating, recruitment activities, personal appearances, and other designated events for the benefit and promotion of SAU.
- Must be prepared to adjust your personal schedule from time-to-time based on obligations as the Mulerider. Most required events are scheduled in advance. However, there will also be last-minute requests for the appearance of the Mulerider that will need be to be fulfilled.
- The Mulerider must have prior experience with horses and/or mules. Molly Ann (current SAU mule) requires daily care and attention. The Mulerider and the Mulerider Marshals will work together to exercise and care for Molly Ann. The Mulerider will need to spend quality time with Molly Ann in order to establish a positive working relationship that will make gameday and other appearances more pleasant.
- Serve in the position for a one-year term. Renewal of the position is possible upon a year-end review of performance.
