Kim Shirey teaches in the areas of music education, music theory, music history, and music appreciation at Southern Arkansas University. Prior to coming to SAU in 1995, he taught at the University of South Dakota and in public schools in Oklahoma and Indiana. He received a Ph.D. in Music Education from The Ohio State University, a M.M. in Music Theory from the University of Oklahoma, and a B.M. in Music Theory/Composition from The College of Wooster in Ohio.
Dr. Shirey has published articles in (journal names in should be in italics:)The Quarterly Journal of Music Teaching and Learning and in National Association for Music Education (NAfME, formerly Music Educators National Conference) journals including Teaching Music and General Music Today. He is also a contributor to NAfME publications Syllabi for Music Methods Courses and Strategies for Teaching: Guide to Music Methods Classes.
