Andrew Anderson is serving as Director of Athletic Bands and Instructor of Low Brass (trombone/baritone) at SAU. He previously served for 10 years at The University of Tulsa (TU) as Director of Athletic Bands and Director of Bands; during his time at TU he served as the conductor of the TU Wind Ensemble and director of the “Sound of the Golden Hurricane” Marching Band and Basketball Bands. Under his co-direction, the TU Wind Ensemble was selected as a performing ensemble for the 2018 CBDNA Southwest Regional Conference in Houston, TX, only the second time a group from TU had been selected for that honor. Before embarking on his collegiate career, Anderson taught for six years at Piedmont Public Schools, where bands under his direction received consistently high ratings at Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, and Bands of America events.
Anderson is in demand as a clinician and adjudicator; honor band engagements, clinics, and judging appearances have included numerous concert and marching bands during the last decade. Anderson is also a prolific music composer and arranger for many concert and ensembles around the nation. Ensembles recently performing his work include the Oklahoma State University Wind Ensemble, University of Colorado Wind Symphony, University of Oklahoma Wind Symphony, Ball State University Wind Ensemble, Texas Tech University Symphonic Band, and high schools in Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, North Carolina, and Georgia. Anderson holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from the University of Oklahoma, and the Master of Music degree from Oklahoma State University.
