Inspired by Dr. King\u2019s legacy of service, the Fellows dedicated their time and energy to two vital community projects: the SAU Community Garden and Compassion&#8217;s Foundation, Inc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the SAU Community Garden, VISTA Fellows worked tirelessly, planting seeds, and tilling in ground gardening plots. Ryan Wells SAU Community Garden Fellow stated, \u201cThanks to the SAU VISTA Fellows, the SAU Community Garden was able to start over a thousand seedlings for planting in the future.\u201d These seedlings will mature and help fulfill the garden\u2019s mission to provide fresh, nutritious food to students in need. Once harvested, the produce will be made available through SAU\u2019s Mulerider Market, the University\u2019s free food pantry that supports food security among students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, our hardworking team of Fellows took on much-needed projects at Compassion\u2019s Foundation, a local shelter providing safety and support to individuals escaping domestic violence. The team trimmed overgrown bushes and trees, shoveled excess dirt from the driveway, and organized areas inside the shelter. Their efforts transformed the outdoor space into a more welcoming and safe environment for residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur SAU+VISTA Fellows truly have a heart to serve those around them,\u201d said Beth Camp, SAU+AmeriCorps VISTA Assistant Director. \u201cWhether they\u2019re planting seeds or lending a hand to community members, they\u2019re making a difference everywhere they go.
