The three categories of assessments in the Praxis Series correspond to the three milestones in the development of a teacher: entering the teacher training program, graduating from college and entering the profession, and the first year of teaching. The state of Arkansas requires prospective teachers to take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) and tests of the Praxis Subject Assessments which include <em>Principles of Learning and Teaching <\/em>and <em>Subject Assessments\/Specialty Area Tests<\/em>. Teacher candidates should consult the Praxis website and\/or their State Department&#8217;s website for current requirements.<\/p>\n<h2>Description<\/h2>\n<p><strong><em><strong>Praxis\u2122<\/strong><\/em><strong> Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core)\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Praxis\u2122 <\/em>Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) Tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. These tests were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.\u00a0 The Praxis Core is one of the requirements for entrance into the teacher&#8217;s education program at Southern Arkansas University. The<em> Praxis<\/em> Core tests are delivered on computer. They are administered through an international network of test centers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRAXIS Subject Assessments<\/strong> measures knowledge the candidate will teach. They also measure the general and subject-specific pedagogical skills and knowledge. The tests are computer based. The Praxis Subject Assessments tests required for certification by the State of Arkansas include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Principles of Learning and Teaching<\/em>. Students enrolled in Southern Arkansas University&#8217;s Teacher Education Program must pass one Principles of Learning and Teaching test in his\/her specific teaching area prior to student teaching.<\/li>\n<li><em>Subject Assessments\/Specialty Area Tests<\/em>. Students enrolled in Southern Arkansas University&#8217;s Teacher Education Program must pass their specialty area test(s) prior to student teaching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom: 10px\">\n<p>Note: Praxis tests are only given in English. If you are a test taker whose primary language is not English (PLNE), you may be eligible for extended testing time. You will receive an email when your score report has been posted. Scores will be accessible via your account for one year from the posting date. ETS\u00a0recommends you save a copy of your report for your files.<\/p>\n<p><small><sup>2<\/sup><\/small>Tests that contain multiple-choice questions only.<\/p>\n<p><small><sup>3<\/sup><\/small>Tests that contain a combination of multiple-choice and constructed-response questions and those that contain constructed-response questions only.<\/p>\n<p><small><sup>4<\/sup><\/small>Some tests are offered continuously, others are offered during specific testing windows. See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/praxis\/register\/centers_dates\/computer\">Test Dates<\/a> to find when your test is offered. Scores for tests that are administered during a specific testing window will be available as noted above after the testing window closes (regardless of the specific day on which you tested within that window). Scores for tests that contain both multiple-choice and constructed-response questions will be available on the constructed-response score dates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Occasionally, some scores may be unavailable on the dates specified due to processing delays or data updates.<\/p>\n<h3>Getting your <span class=\"text-italic\">Praxis<\/span> Scores<\/h3>\n<p>Your official score report will be available online via your <a title=\"This link opens in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/portal\/site\/iserpraxis\/menuitem.1b7fdbe6788d618e6c41265a7beb1509\">My <span class=\"text-italic\">Praxis<\/span>\u00ae account<\/a> on the score release date. Your scores will also be sent to up to four institutions\/agencies you selected during the registration process.<\/p>\n<p>Online scores are downloadable for one calendar year from the score reporting date. After one year, your score report will no longer be available and you will need to request additional score reports for a $40 fee (per request).
