{"id":22,"date":"2008-01-25T07:51:48","date_gmt":"2008-01-25T13:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/students.southernarkansasuniversity.info\/ct\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2025-08-01T09:58:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T14:58:31","slug":"act-residual","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/testing\/testing-center\/act-residual\/","title":{"rendered":"ACT Residual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each student entering Southern Arkansas University as a college freshman is required to submit scores from the American College Test (ACT) or an alternate test.<strong> ACT Residual reports for students testing on Southern Arkansas University&#8217;s campus will be sent ONLY to SAU.\u00a0 Students will not receive a report, and scores cannot be sent to another school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An applicant may take the ACT Residual for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The student was unable to take the National ACT.<\/li>\n<li>The student needs a higher ACT score to be admitted to SAU.<\/li>\n<li>The student needs a higher ACT score to avoid remediation classes at SAU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ACT Residual may not be taken within 60 days of taking the ACT Assessment through Residual or any other non-national tests on campus. Scores will be cancelled and the test fee will not be refunded. <strong>Scores from the ACT Residual cannot be used to establish scholarship or athletic eligibility.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Description<\/h2>\n<p>The ACT Residual consists of four paper-pencil, multiple-choice tests: English (45 minutes), Mathematics (60 minutes), Reading (35 minutes) and Science Reasoning (35 minutes). Allowing time to fill in personal data, the test takes approximately four hours to complete.<\/p>\n<p>ACT-approved calculators are allowed on the Mathematics test (<a title=\"ACT \" href=\"http:\/\/www.actstudent.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.actstudent.org<\/a>), but are not required. The following types of calculators are NOT allowed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pocket organizers<\/li>\n<li>handheld or laptop computers<\/li>\n<li>electronic writing pads or pen-input devices<\/li>\n<li>models with a QWERTY (typewriter keypad)<\/li>\n<li>models with paper tapes<\/li>\n<li>models that make noise<\/li>\n<li>models that can communicate (transfer data or information) wirelessly with other calculators<\/li>\n<li>models that require a power cord<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Registration Procedures:<\/h2>\n<p>Registration is required. Test is only offered at certain times throughout the year. Call (870) 235-4145 to make a reservation. On the day of the test, report to the testing site with the test fee<strong> ($50.00)<\/strong>, current picture I.D., and at least 2 pencils.<\/p>\n<h2>Score Results:<\/h2>\n<p>The ACT Residual is graded locally and the results are sent to Southern Arkansas University&#8217;s Office of Admissions.<\/p>\n<p>Students with disabilities that require accommodations should contact the Office of\u00a0 Testing two-three weeks prior to the testing date at (870) 235-4145.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each student entering Southern Arkansas University as a college freshman is required to submit scores from the American College Test (ACT) or an alternate test.
