Students off campus who find themselves in uncomfortable situations may contact the SAUPD personnel to provide them safe passage back to the school campus. Students are encouraged to contact local law enforcement in the event of an emergency off campus to obtain immediate attention.<\/p>\n Student Service Officers serve with SAUPD personnel as liaisons of the department during sporting and other major events on campus. They will assist in parking management during these events. Additionally, the students will serve as administrative assistants in the SAUPD offices. Students will be required to conform to the department\u2019s uniform standard by wearing black polo shirts and tan khaki pants. Students working within the department will be required to submit to a cursory background check and will be provided with Arkansas Crime Information Center training.<\/p>\n This seminar is facilitated by SAUPD personnel in training staff, faculty, and students in recognizing, assessing, and reporting suspicious or abnormal behaviors of individuals on campus.\u00a0 This early intervention program is designed to obtain assistance for those who may be suffering from mental health issues as a result of life occurring events.<\/p>\n The Southern Arkansas University Criminal Justice Department and SAU Police Department have teamed together to allow student interns to work along campus police personnel.\u00a0 Students will complete 60 volunteer hours during the semester to meet class requirements.\u00a0 Interns will be assigned to the SAUPD training officer and will receive experiential knowledge on the criminal justice system from the police perspective. Students working within the department will be required to submit to a cursory background check and will be provided with Arkansas Crime Information Center training.<\/p>\n Police officers and student service officers patrol the campus and issue citations for parking violators. A grace period is established during the first week of the commencement of a new semester in which warning citations are issued. Students and faculty are to be mindful not to park in reserved parking spaces, loading docks, fire lanes, and handicapped parking without the proper permits. Police Officers are directed to tow any unauthorized or unpermitted vehicles.<\/p>\n The Southern Arkansas University Police Department and Criminal Justice Department have teamed together to provide criminal justice students the unique opportunity to participate in a ride along program to better understand the challenges of law enforcement from the perspective of criminal justice professionals and practitioners. Students may be assigned to criminal justice professionals through the Southern Arkansas University to satisfy their 60 hours of volunteer community service.<\/p>\n Presentations for your organization are available. Including, but not limited to: alcohol awareness, sexual assaults, internet safety, self-defense for both women and men, workplace violence, and active shooter training.. We tailor presentations to meet the need of your organization.
