Volunteers play an important role in creating links among schools, parents, and communities by working in elementary, secondary, and postsecondary schools as math, science, conversational English, and resource teachers or as early grade reading and literacy teacher trainers. Volunteers also develop libraries and technology resource centers.<\/p>\n<p>If you choose Education, take 3 courses from one of the following areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong>: The Education faculty recommends selecting from the following courses:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Education majors<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S ED 3003 Secondary and Middle School Curriculum *<\/li>\n<li>E ED 4001\/E ED 4343 STEM Science for Teachers *<\/li>\n<li>MSED 4001\/4343 STEM Methods for Middle School Teachers*<\/li>\n<li>MSED 4323 Family, Schools, and Community*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Non-Education majors<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EDUC 2000\/2003 Intro to Education<\/li>\n<li>E ED 2003 Child Growth and Development<\/li>\n<li>EDUC 2023 K-12 Education Technology<\/li>\n<li>E ED 3213 or MSED 3053 Integrated Curriculum and Instruction<\/li>\n<li>EDUC 3013 Education Psychology<\/li>\n<li>SPED 4073 Survey of Exceptional Children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>English<\/strong>: Any three ENG courses numbered 2000 or above<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mathematics<\/strong>: Any three MATH courses numbered above 1023<\/p>\n<p><strong>Computer Science<\/strong>: Any three CSCI courses numbered 2103 or above<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chemistry<\/strong>: Any three CHEM courses<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biology<\/strong>: Any three BIOL courses<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>And build 50 hours of related field experience through activities including the following examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching in one of these or a similar form: in a classroom, with a community outreach organization, or in a formal tutoring capacity<\/li>\n<li>The subject of the teaching may be English as a Foreign\/Second Language, special education, drama, or a STEM subject<\/li>\n<li>Working as a mentor\/tutor at the Magnolia Columbia County Literacy Council with adult education or English as a second language for children, youth, and adults<\/li>\n<li>Working with the SAU ESL Program<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering with international college students to learn a language or American culture or job skills<\/li>\n<li>Helping with educational programs held at SAU for primary and secondary students<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering with Mulerider Kids College<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering with Mulerider Teen College<\/li>\n<li>Volunteering with HOBY (Hugh O&#8217;Brian Youth Leadership workshops)<\/li>\n<li>Supplemental Instruction Tutoring<\/li>\n<li>Peer Tutoring -Team Study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The courses below contain a fieldwork component that would meet the 50 hours for Education majors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>E ED 4303 Upper Grades Field Experience *<\/li>\n<li>E ED 4023 Lower Grades Field Experience*<\/li>\n<li>E ED 4006 Student Teaching in the Elementary School I*<\/li>\n<li>E ED 4103, 4016 Student Teaching in the Elementary School II*<\/li>\n<li>EDUC 4023 K-12 Field Experience*<\/li>\n<li>MSED 4006 Student Teaching I*<\/li>\n<li>MSED 4023 Middle Level Field II*<\/li>\n<li>MSED 4103, 4016 Student Teaching II*<\/li>\n<li>S ED 4006 Student Teaching in the Secondary School I*<\/li>\n<li>S ED 4023 Supervised Field Experience Level II*<\/li>\n<li>S ED 4013, 4106 Student Teaching in the Secondary School II*<br \/>\n* Please note courses require admission to the College of Education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teach lessons that last a lifetime.
