Quality Matters (QM) is a nationally recognized, faculty-centered non-profit organization that offers a rubric and peer review process, based on best practices, to measure the quality of online and blended courses. QM provides tools, resources, support, and training to empower faculty to design their own quality online courses. QM does not evaluate online teaching, nor the online instructor, but is focused solely on the design of the course.

The Office of Online Learning (OOL) offers faculty the opportunity to complete the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) two-week online workshop. Faculty will learn the underlying principles behind the QM Rubric and the critical elements of the QM quality assurance process. For more information about QM training, please contact SAU’s Quality Matters Coordinator, Drew Glover, drewglover@saumag.edu.

After completing the APPQMR, faculty can use the web-based automated rubric tool to complete a Self-Review for the purpose of developing and improving their online course(s). When a Self-Review has been completed, the instructor can request an Internal Review, an unofficial course review managed by the OOL. When revisions based on feedback have been made, the course will be ready to be submitted for an official review managed by QM. An official course review can lead to the course being QM certified.
