Boomtown Classic

– Gayla Smith

The Student Nurses’ Association has combined forces with the Nursing Alumni Chapter (NAC) to host Alumni Appreciation Day at the Boomtown Classic on October 6.

The Boomtown Classic is a football game originally played between SAU and UAM. This year UAM is unable to play due to scheduling conflicts, so it will be SAU vs. Harding. The game is played in El Dorado, a half-way point for both teams.

SNA will continue their tradition of conducting free blood pressure screenings, but through the combined efforts of NAC and the SAU Alumni Association, SNA will offer grilled hamburgers, chips and drinks at mulegating.

SNA will also host face painting for the kids and NAC will be selling their new T-shirt – “Feel the pulse of the Muleriders.”

Remember to wear an SNA or SAU shirt and bring a stethoscope and BP cuff if you are scheduled to work this event. Also, be at El Dorado Memorial Stadium by 9:00 AM.

There is a map on the SNA board for those who need directions. The map will also show where the tents will be set up on game day. Contact Gayla Smith, event chair, with any further questions at gasmith7492@muleriders.saumag.edu.

ANSA 2012

– Stephanie Seymour

Each year the Arkansas Nursing Students’ Association (ANSA) convenes to discuss bylaw changes, attend focus sessions and elect new officers. This year ANSA will hold its annual convention in Little Rock, October 10-12.

General registration will begin on October 10 at 5:00PM along with delegate credentialing. Delegates and alternates must be present to be credentialed. SNA membership cards must be presented at this time.

At delegate credentialing, all delegates are issued a delegate ribbon. This must be worn at all times in order to vote in elections and to gain entry into the House of Delegates.

School delegates are seated together in the House of Delegates. Upon credentialing, a seating chart will be issued to indicate each delegation’s location.

Voting takes place in the House of Delegates on issues affecting national and state chapters. The Chair of the House will usually ask to signify a vote by “aye” or “nay.” The Chair may also call for a showing of hands or a standing count.

Some chapters have motions, amendments and discussions they wish to make in the House of Delegates. Always introduce yourself before you speak by giving your name, your school and state. For example: “Madam Chair, Stephanie Seymour, delegate from Southern Arkansas University Chapter in Magnolia.” Delegates dress in professional and business casual attire, comfortable shoes, and a sweater or light jacket are recommended.
