WASHINGTON \u2013 U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) today commended Cory Davis \u201810 of Hope for successfully completing the first summer session of his Washington, D.C., Congressional Internship Program, which ran June 1 \u2013 July 3, 2009.<\/p>\n
Throughout Ross\u2019s five-week summer internship program, these students attended committee hearings and legislative briefings, assisted members of the congressional staff on various projects, assisted visiting Arkansans and had the opportunity to shadow Ross for a day. Ross\u2019s internship program provides young leaders the opportunity to understand the inner-workings of the federal government first-hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy internship program in our nation\u2019s capital is designed to expose students to our federal government and the legislative process, experiences that simply cannot be learned in a classroom,\u201d said Ross. \u201cCongressional internships provide a unique setting for student leaders to not only understand the importance of public service, but also to work on behalf of the people of Arkansas\u2019s Fourth Congressional District. I am proud of these fine students for all of their hard work this summer and I wish each of them success in their future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cory Davis is a 2006 Hope High School graduate and is a Class of 2010 student at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia where he is studying biological science. Davis is the son of Darrell and Lisa Davis of Hope and the grandson of Galen and Joann May and Ray and Norma Davis all of Hope.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Washington experience is definitely one I will always remember,\u201d said Davis. \u201cI had a great time learning first-hand how Congress works and how our laws are made. I am grateful for the experience and now have a much greater appreciation for public service.\u201d<\/p>\n
