Maribeth Adams could not believe it when her name was called as the recipient of the 2006 Arkansas PBL Member of the Year at the state leadership conference held in Little Rock.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was shocked and surprised when my name was called,\u201d said the sophomore accounting major at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia. \u201cI had forgotten that I had even applied for it. It is an honor to receive this recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n
To be considered for this award, Adams was required to fill out an application that highlighted all of the volunteer work she did with PBL and other organizations.<\/p>\n
Adams is a member SAU PBL chapter and is involved with promoting, recruiting and fundraising for the organization. She became involved with FBLA in high school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI enjoyed being involved, and I wanted to continue,\u201d said the 2004 graduate of Warren High School. \u201cIt helps you grow individually.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adams feels that it is important for students to be involved with a variety of activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing involved shows that you\u2019re taking pride in the University,\u201d she said. \u201cIt helps you network and build relationships with students and faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other activities Adams is involved with include Phi Mu, the Student Government Association, and the Association of Baptist Students. She also serves as a resident assistant.<\/p>\n
\u201cI chose to be a resident assistant because I want to see residents get involved with campus life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
When Adams visited the campus during her senior year of high school, she said there was a positive, friendly atmosphere and everyone greeted her.<\/p>\n
