Light for the Fight honors those who have battled, or continue to battle, cancer by placing luminaries in Blanchard Hall on the SAU campus. Because of concerns about the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be slightly different this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2020\/10\/light-for-the-fight-image.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8448\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2020\/10\/light-for-the-fight-image-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2020\/10\/light-for-the-fight-image-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2020\/10\/light-for-the-fight-image-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2020\/10\/light-for-the-fight-image.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Luminaries are available for purchase in honor and in memory of friends and family members affected by cancer. Light pink luminaries will be in memory of our friends and family members who had breast cancer, dark pink luminaries are for breast cancer survivors or current fighters, and purple luminaries are for those affected by other types of cancer.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The luminaries will then be on display throughout the month of October in the Blanchard Hall business building.<\/p>\n<p>A virtual lighting ceremony will be broadcast from Blanchard Hall at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. Participants can join this ceremony via zoom: <a href=\"https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/j\/83656616270\">https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/j\/83656616270<\/a>. \u00a0The luminaries are $5 each and can be purchased by visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/business\/light-for-the-fight\/\">https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/business\/light-for-the-fight\/<\/a>. Luminaries purchased by Oct. 15 will be included in the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ceremony is a way to honor all of those who have battled cancer, as well as for the survivors of those who have been lost to cancer, said Dr. Robin Sronce, dean of the Rankin College of Business. \u201cThis is a great community project that our students have taken on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This Light for the Fight ceremony began when business students wanted to do something to honor Tammie Green, the wife of current business professor Dr. Ken Green.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the sale of the luminaries will go to the Steel Magnolias\u2019 Breast Cancer Support Group in Magnolia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Business Student Advisory Council at the Rankin College of Business at Southern Arkansas University is sponsoring its eighth annual Light for the Fight during the month of October.
