He listened to family stories at his mom\u2019s kitchen table and later became the\u00a0storyteller at family reunions. After attending Southern State College (now SAU), he began his career as\u00a0an art teacher and football coach. Eager\u00a0to work in film,\u00a0Thomason\u2019s first productions were\u00a0political commercials for statewide broadcast. He\u00a0ultimately\u00a0moved to California, where he\u00a0began\u00a0making\u00a0made-for-TV movies and sitcoms. In 1983, he founded Mozark Productions with his writer-producer-director wife, Linda Bloodworth Thomason.
