Angelyn McMurray, the president of the non-profit organization \u201cWe Are Free,\u201d will be speaking about her charge to foster respect and eradicate exploitation at 7 p.m. on April 13, 2015, at Southern Arkansas University\u2019s Reynolds Center Foundation Hall.<\/p>\n
The purpose of We Are Free is to find, rescue, and treat victims of labor trafficking. McMurray travels across the nation to talk to people about the horrors of labor trafficking. She also hopes so educate the public on how to spot potential victims, and alerts the listeners to the magnitude of the horrible industry.<\/p>\n
Macy Frazier, a senior Marketing major from Canton, Texas, has been integral to McMurray\u2019s visit to SAU. Frazier became interested in this issue through one of her business professors, Sheryl Edwards, who attended a speaking event put on by McMurray and grew fascinated with the issue. Edwards and Frazier saw possibilities for a future project for Enactus, SAU College of Business\u2019 award-winning organization. Frazier is vice president of Enactus, and took it upon herself to reach out to McMurray.<\/p>\n
\u201cI decided that a speaking event at the University would help McMurray reach a broader audience than she has been able to so far,\u201d said Frazier. \u201cI met McMurray, and she showed great enthusiasm at the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
To accomplish their mission, We Are Free has a goal to offer comprehensive services for survivors of trafficking at a Christ-centered aftercare facility. The facility, Hebron Hills, will be located on 25 acres in Southern Arkansas. It will provide services such as long-term temporary housing, case management, legal services, medical care, psychological care, spiritual care education, vocational training and job placement.<\/p>\n
According to McMurray, the rebuilding process is a critical time for survivors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe restoration process facilitated at Hebron Hills will equip each survivor with the ability to grow and cultivate all that is innately unique about themselves so that they can transition to an independent life where individual goals can be realized,\u201d said McMurray.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
