{"id":3921,"date":"2014-10-06T10:53:56","date_gmt":"2014-10-06T15:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/?p=3921"},"modified":"2014-10-06T10:53:56","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T15:53:56","slug":"register-for-affordable-dsm-5-workshop-at-sau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/2014\/register-for-affordable-dsm-5-workshop-at-sau\/","title":{"rendered":"Register for affordable DSM-5 workshop at SAU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A national presenter on the DSM-5, Dr. George Haarman, will be offering an affordable workshop from 8:30 a.m. \u2013 3 p.m. on November 14, 2014, at Southern Arkansas University\u2019s Reynolds Center Grand Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Haarman\u2019s presentation is entitled \u201cThe DSM-5: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning for Psychological and Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents.\u201d It has been approved for 5.5 Continuing Education Units by the National Association of Social Work (NASW), the Arkansas Psychology Board (APB) and the Arkansas Counseling Association (ACA).<\/p>\n<p>The fee is $25 for students and $50 for professionals. You can also register online at web.SAUmag.edu\/CE\/Register-Online, or visit the Division of Continuing Education at office 111 of the SAU Business Building.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the learning objectives for this workshop include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which\u00a0 disorders are new to the DSM-5 that relate to children and\u00a0 adolescents?<\/li>\n<li>Has\u00a0 Asperger\u2019s been removed or reclassified and\u00a0 why?<\/li>\n<li>How can\u00a0 you distinguish between Bipolar and Disruptive Mood\u00a0 Dysregulation Disorder?<\/li>\n<li>What is\u00a0 the proper diagnosis for Autism Spectrum\u00a0 Disorder?<\/li>\n<li>How do\u00a0 the changes affect children and adolescents already\u00a0 diagnosed with ADHD? Oppositional Defiant Disorder? Eating\u00a0 Disorders?<\/li>\n<li>What is\u00a0 the proper grading scale for assessing if a child or\u00a0 adolescent has mild, moderate, or severe Substance Use\u00a0 Disorder?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Haarman, Psy.D., LMFT, is a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed marriage and family therapist with more than 30 years of experience in private practice. He has worked with youth detention centers, juvenile group homes, child protective services, and juvenile probation. Haarman is currently in private practice, and also serves as a consultant to several school systems regarding the assessment of children.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being in private practice, from 1984-1994, he was the deputy director for Jefferson County Department for Human Services in Louisville, KY.\u00a0 He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University in 1989 and is a member of the American Psychological Association.<\/p>\n<p>Haarman has been an instructor at Jefferson Community College, Bellarmine University, and Spalding University. He has presented seminars regionally and nationally on the DSM-5, clinical supervision, psychopathology, depression, and emotional disorders in children and adolescents.
