\"Marshall<\/a>Spoken word poet Marshall Davis Jones is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Southern Arkansas University\u2019s Reynolds Center Foundation Hall.<\/p>\n

The public is encouraged to attend what is sure to be a moving event, as Davis is renowned for his gift of poetry and perspective to connect others to their greater selves.<\/p>\n

Jones is performance, entitled \u201cOh Word? The Power and Bond of Our Language,\u201d is being sponsored by the Kathleen Mallory Distinguished Lecture Series.<\/p>\n

Jones devoted his life to the craft of spoken word poetry in 2006, and the self-described \u201cWorld-Bridger\u201d has not looked back since. He has featured for numerous TEDx events, universities, and organizations such as Wired Magazine, eBay, and Procter & Gamble. In addition, he has been featured as Best of Upworthy and even found his way to Season 3 of Lexus\u2019 Verses and Flow. In May 2014 he will perform at The Social Innovation Summit at the United Nations.<\/p>\n

Jones\u2019 performances are fueled by his desire to make his way in the world as an artist whose work both entertains and educates his audiences. To that end, he serves as an educator for youth initiatives and as a facilitator of adult workshops. When he is not performing, Marshall invests his time in picking his daughter\u2019s brain for the keys to the universe.<\/p>\n

The mission of the Kathleen Mallory Distinguished Lecture Series is to honor Dr. Mallory\u2019s many contributions to Southern Arkansas University, to the community, and to the state of Arkansas. This is done by bringing scholars working in the fields of African Diasporic and African American Studies to SAU to share their scholarship with students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.<\/p>\n
