Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, recently announced the promotion of Darrell Morrison to vice president for finance, a new position at the University. The promotion became effective on July 1, 2006.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am extremely pleased to have Darrell Morrison as our new vice president for finance,\u201d said Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. \u201cWe are very fortunate to have someone with his experience and ability to take on this important position.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morrison began his career at SAU in September 2000 as the controller, where he managed the accounting office, student accounts, and various other areas. He was then promoted to director of financial services and, more recently, to associate vice president for finance.<\/p>\n
Rankin said the ever-increasing demands and complexity within the area of finance led to the creation of the new position.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe growth of the financial resources of the University and the increasing complexity of financial management have created the need for a new vice president in this area,\u201d said Rankin.<\/p>\n
In his new role as vice president for finance, Morrison will supervise accounting, student accounts, purchasing, payroll, and accounts payable, and he will also prepare the University budget and financial statements.<\/p>\n
Morrison earned his B.S.B.A. from Henderson State University and his M.B.A. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Before joining SAU, he spent more than 15 years working for the Arkansas Legislative audit, where he audited a variety of government entities, including counties, cities, and universities.<\/p>\n
Morrison said he is thankful for the opportunity and looks forward to the new challenges that he will face as a vice president.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate the opportunity Dr. Rankin and the Board of Trustees have afforded me,\u201d said Morrison. \u201cI look forward to working with the other vice presidents, and I appreciate the support they have shown me. I am also very grateful for my hard-working staff.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morrison said his goal will be to make the financial aspects of the University run as smoothly as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am looking forward to working with our students, faculty, and staff and finding better ways to serve them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Darrell and his wife, April, have a four-year-old son, Caleb, and Chris, who lives in Arkadelphia. Darrell is a member of the First Baptist Church and the Magnolia Lions Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
