{"id":2810,"date":"2013-02-28T12:54:44","date_gmt":"2013-02-28T18:54:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/?p=2810"},"modified":"2013-02-28T13:18:19","modified_gmt":"2013-02-28T19:18:19","slug":"artexhibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/2013\/artexhibit\/","title":{"rendered":"SAU hosts diverse artists in March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Southern Arkansas University\u2019s Department of Art and Design will host three artists on campus during the month of March.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish artist Cemille Ateykin will exhibit her works in the Edge Gallery of Brinson Fine Arts Building room 111, March 7- March 30.<\/p>\n<p>Aytekin, who assumed associate professor title in 2011 in the field of painting, has a doctorate of basic design education and a master\u2019s degree in the field of contemporary western art of painting. Aytekin has focused on contemporary painting and basic art and design education since graduating from Dokuz Eyl\u00fcl University in Turkey in1996.<\/p>\n<p>Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m., Bill Plympton of Plymptoon Studios NYC will demonstrate his work in the field of animation in Foundation Hall. Plympton is an American animator, cartoonist, director, screenwriter and producer best known for his 1987 Academy Award-nominated animated short \u201cYour Face\u201d and his series of shorts \u201cGuard Dog, Guide Dog, Hot Dog and Horn Dog.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Born in Portland, Ore. with a degree from School of Visual Arts in NYC, his work has appeared in <i>Vanity Fair, National Lampoon, Vogue, The Rolling Stone<\/i> and others as well as on the &#8220;silver&#8221; screen. Plympton has also won awards in animated film festivals in NYC, San Francisco, Burbank and the Grand Prize in 2001 for the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Professional artist Carole Katchen, will exhibit a lifetime of her work in the Brinson Gallery March 5 \u2013 March 29. The nearly month-long exhibit entitled \u201cCarole Katchen: 40-year Retrospect Exhibition\u201d will begin with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 in the Brinson gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Wed., March 6 from 10 a.m. to noon, Katchen will also conduct a seminar for art majors and anyone interested in attending &#8211; \u201cWhat it takes to be a professional artist.\u201d\u00a0 Katchen is the author of 14 art books, three children\u2019s books, a former columnist for <i>Pastel Journal<\/i> and <i>International Art Magazine<\/i>, as well as contributing editor for <i>The Artist\u2019s Magazine<\/i> for 24 years. Katchen holds a degree in psychology from the University of Colorado-Boulder and has studied art at Morley College- London, the Camden Art Center-London and the Bezalel Art Institute-Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>For the past nine years, she has served as chairman of the Hot Springs (Ark.) Arts Advisory Committee and maintains a very active national exhibition record. Internationally, she has exhibited in South America, China and Taiwan.
