SAU celebrates character education at Eastside Elementary<\/p>\n
MAGNOLIA, Ark. \u2013 Loud cheers greeted members of the baseball team, rodeo team, and cheerleading squad from Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, and the KCA All-Star Cheerleaders as Eastside Elementary School celebrated Character Education.
\nEach group spoke on promoting respect, trustworthiness, and responsibility. Patrice Phillips, a graduate student from Little Rock, emceed the pep rally. Roger Giles, vice president for finance and administration, presented Eastside teachers Tena Hughes, Susan Hanson, and Kay Whitehead with certificates of appreciation for their outstanding support to character education programs for the last seven years.<\/p>\n
The Character Education pep rally kicked off \u201cMuleriders and Youth\u201d (MAY) month sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations at SAU.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SAU Alumni Association wants all past and present Muleriders to do something with or for a yout.,\u201d said Ceil Bridges, director of the Office of Alumni Relations. \u201cWhy not bring a youth to SAU and show them around campus. Their education is their future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other activities scheduled to commemorate Muleriders and Youth month included the following:<\/p>\n
* The SAU cheerleaders and Circle of Friends sponsored a mini cheer camp on May 6 to raise money for the Arkansas Children\u2019s Hospital.
\n * SAU alumni hosted Clydesgating on Wednesday, May 17. The SAU Foundation and Alumni cooked hot dogs and had activities planned for children.
