The Department of Nursing at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, will co-sponsor the 7th annual Family Care Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Donald W. Reynolds Campus and Community Center located on the University campus.<\/p>\n
The health fair is an annual event and a collaborative community effort. The H.E.A.L.T.H. (Helping Everyone Achieve Long-Term Health) in Columbia County Initiative is made up of community service providers, businesses, and medical and educational representatives who, through their knowledge of the community, identify areas of concern and develop projects to meet those needs. The Arkansas Department of Health assists with technical and administrative support.<\/p>\n
Other sponsors are H.E.A.L.T.H. in Columbia County Initiative and Living Hope-Texarkana.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge everyone to join us,\u201d said Dr. Golden Tradewell, chair of the Department of Nursing at SAU. \u201cWe will offer health education programs for the children in the Reynolds Center. We will offer blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening, and glucose screening, as well as providing adult immunizations in the Wharton Nursing Building.\u201d<\/p>\n
The health fair is free and open to the public. It offers the community an opportunity to obtain services in important areas such as health, safety, and community education. It is also a forum for families to identify services that are available to them within the community and a chance for them to enjoy fun activities with their children.<\/p>\n
Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the fun and take advantage of free vision, dental, and blood pressure screenings. Blood sugar and cholesterol screenings will be conducted in the Wharton Nursing Building, located on the SAU campus. Free refreshments, entertainment, and drawings for door prizes will also be available.<\/p>\n
Participants in the 7th annual Family Care Fair include Magnolia Hospital and the SAU Department of Nursing, blood sugar, cholesterol, Gigi Germ, and obesity information; Dr. David Alford, dental screenings; Dr. Eddie McDonnell and Dr. Justin Franks, vision screenings; Columbia County Health Unit, WIC information and adult TDs; Steel Magnolias, breast cancer awareness; Cassie Franks, chair massages; Community Hospice, community information; Columbia County Library, information; Area Agency on Aging and SA-HELLO, program information; South Arkansas Center on Aging, program information; Library for the Blind and Physically handicapped, program information; The Hannah Medical Center, program information; Arkansas Spinal Cord Commission, program information; SAU HKR exercise testing\/practicum class, muscular strength and endurance and flexibility; Arthritis Foundation, program information; Columbia County Department of Human Services, program information; Prevention Resource Center, program information, coloring contest; Marshall\u2019s Home Medical, information; Magnolia High School Internship Club, drug awareness; Magnolia Fire Department; Arkansas Children\u2019s Hospital Fire Safety House; SWACDC Tobacco Prevention, information; SAU Police Department, children\u2019s fingerprinting; Doctor\u2019s Home Care\/Healthware, information on services; KIDS First, information on services; Family Chiropractic Center, spinal screenings and consultations; Audibel, hearing screenings; Magnolia Hospital Home Health, program information; Magnolia Hospital, body composition, breast care, nutrition, and sleep lab; and Magnolia Hospital Rural Health, childhood safety.<\/p>\n
