The mentoring program is a project sponsored and supported by CRA-W and the National Science Foundation. Its purpose is to match outstanding students and research faculties in universities nationwide to do research in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very competitive to be selected,\u201d said Dr. Yujiang Shan, assistant professor of mathematics and computer science at SAU. \u201cThis is a great honor for Ly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phan, of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, will work with professor Cindy Grimm from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of the program is to provide students a chance to know better about computer science research work so that they can decide whether it is a suitable line for them or not,\u201d said Phan. \u201cThere are many professors from many universities who participate in the program as mentors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank Dr. Shan for his help and support with my application,\u201d said Phan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ly Phan, a senior computer science major at Southern Arkansas University, will be one of approximately 45 students from across the United States to participate this summer in the Women in Computing Research Association Distributed Mentor Program.<\/p>\n<p>This organization promotes women\u2019s participation in computer science and engineering research.
