{"id":179,"date":"2005-11-30T15:09:58","date_gmt":"2005-11-30T20:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.southernarkansasuniversity.info\/2005\/11\/academics\/lpa\/sau-student-to-perform-in-last-production-looks-to-future\/179\/"},"modified":"2005-11-30T15:09:58","modified_gmt":"2005-11-30T20:09:58","slug":"sau-student-to-perform-in-last-production-looks-to-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/2005\/sau-student-to-perform-in-last-production-looks-to-future\/","title":{"rendered":"SAU student to perform in last production, looks to future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2007\/07\/98-todd_flanagan_mugshot2.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[pics179]\" title=\"Todd Flanagan\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2007\/07\/98-todd_flanagan_mugshot2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Todd Flanagan\" class=\"imageframe imgalignleft\" height=\"200\" width=\"147\" \/><\/a>Todd Flanagan knew what he wanted to do when he grew up from an early age; he just wasn\u2019t sure how to achieve his goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was younger, I wanted to be in the television and do what the people on TV did,\u201d said Flanagan, who will receivehis B.A. in theatre from Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, in December. \u201cI didn\u2019t know how they got there, but I knew it was something I wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, as he grew older, Flanagan chose a different path. He decided to follow the popular crowd and run track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew I had talent, but nobody else knew,\u201dsaid Flanagan, a 2001 graduate of Genoa Central High School. \u201cI could hear pitch, sing, and dance, but I didn\u2019t let anyone around me know because it wasn\u2019t praised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan found his calling while a student at SAU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know theatre existed until SAU,\u201d Flanagan admitted. \u201cI was cast as the lead in \u201cOur Town,\u201d and I loved doing it and received positive feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since that time, Flanagan has been involved in some shape or form with all theatre productions in the Department of Theatre and Mass Communication.<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan will make his last appearance in an SAU theatre production in \u201cThe Voice of the Prairie,\u201d to be presented at 7:30 p.m.nightly Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, on the stage of Harton Theater. Tickets are $2 for SAU students, faculty, and staff, and $4 for general admission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI definitely do not regret anything about choosing SAU to further my career in theatre,\u201d said Flanagan.<br \/>\nFlanagan praises the Department for teaching its students everything from working behind the scenes, to auditioning, and everything you need to know about a career in theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department is really good at putting students in the middle of things,\u201d said Flanagan. \u201cBy doing that, it helps us grow as all-around theatre students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now that he is looking forward to graduating and making his dream of performing a reality, Flanagan is amazed by the opportunities he has.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have so many possibilities and things I want to do,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what my life is going to be, but I believe in myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After graduating in December, Flanagan will stay in the area until February, when he will audition for graduate school in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>His dream is to attend the University of Georgia because he likes the location and the hip-hop vibe and what they have to offer with music and dance. The reality is that he will be willing to attend any graduate school that accepts him in their program and offers a stipend.<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan admits that he is also thinking of moving to the West Coast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos Angeles is on my mind right now,\u201d he said.\u201cMy cousin will move to L.A. in the summer, and I might go out there and start my career there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whatever he decides to do, Flanagan just wants to make a living as a performer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to perform anywhere and have it well received,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to be where I feel my craft is praised and accepted.
