MAGNOLIA – A ribbon cutting and open house are planned for the Natural Resource Research Center at Southern Arkansas University. The event will begin at noon on Friday, April 8. The NRRC is located just behind the University Science Center on the west side of the Magnolia campus.

Featured speakers for the event will be United States Congressman Mike Ross, a representative of the Economic Development Administration, SAU President Dr. David Rankin, and NRRC Director Dr. Tim Schroeder. The facility will be open to the public for tours following the ceremony.

In case of inclement weather, the dedication ceremony will be held in the Warnock Lecture Hall inside the University Science Center.

The Natural Resource Research Center will serve as an engine for economic growth in south Arkansas by providing state-of-the-art research facilities dedicated to studying lignite, oil, bromine, and other natural resources found in the region. The research in the NRRC will be conducted by SAU faculty and students, giving them the opportunity to perform high-quality studies that could not previously take place on our campus.

Funded by a grant from the United States Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and the University, the NRRC will also help carry out the mission of the Arkansas Lignite Resources Pilot Program. This program was created by the Arkansas General Assembly in 2007.
