Top scholars from around the world were invited to participate in a book dedicated to Cuban writer Julian del Casal. Dr. Elba Birmingham-Pokorny, a professor of Spanish at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, was one of those scholars.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was truly honored to be a part of this wonderful project,\u201d said Pokorny. \u201cJulian del Casal is considered one of the forerunners of the modernist movement in Latin America.\u201d<\/p>\n
Professors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, Northern Illinois University, the Universidad de Costa Rica, Florida Southern College, and the University of Central Florida also collaborated for the book.<\/p>\n
In December 2005, a ceremony was conducted in Nicaragua to formally present the book in a special ceremony. The book was published in Nicaragua, and the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a very emotional moment,\u201d said Pokorny, \u201cwhen we attended a special ceremony commemorating the publication of the book.\u201d
