The Performing Arts Series at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, will present the Rockefeller String Quartet in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Oliver Recital Hall in Camp Hall on the University campus.<\/p>\n
The quartet of musicians, all members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, will perform Haydn\u2019s Quartet in D Major, nicknamed the \u201cLark,\u201d and George Crumb\u2019s \u201cBlack Angels.\u201d The latter work is most distinctive, having been composed in 1969-70, near the end of the Vietnam War era, and reflects the tensions of that time.<\/p>\n
The musicians will perform on amplified string instruments as well as a variety of percussion instruments. The second half of the concert will feature violinist Andrew Irvin, French hornist David Renfro, and pianist Carl Anthony in a performance of Brahms\u2019 Trio in E-flat Major.<\/p>\n
