Dr. Roger Guevara began his teaching career as a water safety instructor and lifeguard at his local swimming pool.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the impact I had at the swimming pool, and I thought why not in the classroom,\u201d he said. \u201cThe children responded so well, I couldn\u2019t help but pursue a teaching career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guevara earned his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University, a master\u2019s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and his doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.<\/p>\n

Prior to taking the position of director of the Educational Renewal Zone at Southern Arkansas University, he served as the alternative teacher certification supervisor at Tarleton State University.<\/p>\n

He will also teach educational administration in the College of Education.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am looking forward to working with Dr. Ruby Burgess, dean of the College of Education, in strengthening the preparation process for educational leaders,\u201d he said.
\nGuevara chose to join the SAU faculty because of his wife, Debbie.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is from Arkansas and wanted to return home,\u201d he said. \u201cThis wonderful opportunity opened up, and we were excited to make the move.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his down time, Guevara said he enjoys traveling, running, lifting weights, and interacting with people.<\/p>\n

Guevara and his wife have two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth, 6, and Mariah Grace, 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
