The College of Business at Southern Arkansas University (SAU) is sponsoring \u201cClassroom to Careers,\u201d an annual event designed to teach on a variety of topics such as how to make smart career choices, resumes, and interview techniques from 9 a.m. to noon on October 14. The theme of this year\u2019s event is \u201cGoing in the Right Direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cCollege of Business Dean Lisa Toms has designed this year\u2019s program specifically to make her students more competitive with business students from other colleges and universities across the nation,\u201d said Amber Amonette, Toms\u2019 senior intern.<\/p>\n
The program will feature three different sections of speakers. The 9 a.m. section is titled \u201cGoing into the Business World.\u201d Each section will have different seminars emphasizing accounting, information technology, finance, management and marketing in order for different types of business majors to receive specific insight from people working in their intended fields.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoing the Right Way\u201d is the theme of the 10 a.m. section of panel discussions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis section will highlight the importance of diversity, \u201cgoing green\u201d and globalization. This will be the time in the history of the program that there will be a section dealing with the \u201cgoing green\u201d concept,\u201d said Becki Talley, administrative secretary of the College of Business.<\/p>\n
The final section of \u201cClassroom to Careers\u201d starts at 11 a.m. and will be dealing with \u201cGoing Professional.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis section will obviously deal with professionalism; it will also give SAU College of Business alums the opportunity to come back give input on what it is really like to go from the classroom to a career,\u201d Amonette said.<\/p>\n
The College of Business Classroom to Careers Conference originally started in 1978 under Dr. David Rankin, dean of the College of Business. The program also continued throughout Gayle White\u2019s tenure as dean. In 2002 Dr. Terrye Stinson revamped the program and it has continued to evolve each year to help meet the current needs of College of Business students.<\/p>\n
